An exciting journey through time: Discover how the former waterworks functioned and how the site with its filter basins has been transformed into a valuable natural area in recent years.

When the waterworks was shut down in 1990, nature reclaimed the amphibious cultural landscape on the island of Kaltehofe. This approximately one-hour guided tour introduces the special flora and fauna of Kaltehofe and focuses along the nature trail on the eventful process of becoming a nature park and biotope. The tour runs across the listed ensemble, which is also an important natural area today; the path leads past wild herb meadows and reed beds, between the former filter basins and onto the birdwatching platform, where you can keep an eye out for water birds and nutrias.

Please note: The tour takes place in an open area and offers no protection from the weather of any kind. All participants should be dressed appropriately for the weather conditions, including adequate sun protection.
