Both were born in Tehran, both emigrated to Germany with their families: Behzad Karim Khani (*1977), shooting star of German literature, and Mohammad Sarhangi (*1989), historian at the Center for Research on Anti-Semitism at the TU Berlin. In his new novel "Als wir Schwäne waren" (Hanser Berlin), Behzad Karim Khani tells the story of a family's arrival in a new country, of a son's anger and his parents' hope. In "Years of Fear, Moments of Hope" (S. Fischer), Mohammad Sarhangi shows how exile, foreignness and discrimination shape feelings - often across generations. Emergency community family: How does fleeing and arriving together weld children and parents together?
