For her brilliant acting performance in this pitch-black comedy by Ethan and Joel Coen ("The Big Lebowski"), Frances McDormand ("Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri") was honored with an Oscar® for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 1997, while the Coen brothers received the Oscar® for Best Original Screenplay. At the 1996 Cannes International Film Festival, Joel Coen was awarded the prize for Best Director. With the now two-time Oscar®-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins ("Blade Runner 2049") and composer Carter Burwell ("Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"), the Coens had two long-time companions on board for FARGO.
