True Crime. The genre that captivates millions of listeners worldwide - but what is it that makes mysterious murders, unsolved missing persons cases and perfidious scams so fascinating? The above-average number of female consumers is particularly striking. Women are twice as likely to listen to true crime podcasts as men. It is estimated that 80 percent of the audience for such formats is female. What psychological mechanisms are behind this? And what about the moral boundaries of consuming or producing true crime formats? Not only numerous Reddit forums are asking these questions, but also psychologist Corinna Perchtold-Stefan, who is researching the topic at the University of Graz. Britta Mahrholz and Rolf Rosenstock don't do research, they produce it: the podcast True Crime Hannover. The ethical dimension and the influence of the media are just two aspects that salon host Zoë Lecht discusses controversially with them.
