Road trip through Kazakhstan
Lecture by Frank Meures
Between the western metropolis of Almaty and the original village life in the steppe, Kazakhstan remains a country of contrasts. With impressive pictures, Frank takes you on an exciting road trip through a country about which dozens of travel guides have not yet been written. He tells of nights spent camping in the desert, flat car tires and adventurous changes of plan when you don't speak a word of Russian and your only accommodation is suddenly in a restricted military area on the border with China and Kyrgyzstan. But the biggest surprise remains the immeasurable diversity of the country. In addition to endless steppe landscapes, wild horses and traditional yurts, Kazakhstan has so much more to offer. His journey takes him from glowing orange canyons and bizarre rock formations in the stony desert to lush green pastures and up into the mountains of the Tian Shan range, which is over 7,000 meters high.
There are also practical travel tips that show how easy it is to travel this unknown country on your own with a rental car and a sense of adventure - even without having to take months off work.
