Over the course of three years, filmmaker Ruth Beckermann follows a class of children aged seven to ten and their dedicated teacher in a large school in Vienna's Favoriten district. The documentary takes us into the classroom and lets us experience the children's daily adventures, struggles, defeats and successes up close. The Favoriten district was once a working-class district, and today the majority of children at the elementary school there do not speak German as their first language. The film follows the children with great sensitivity as their teacher helps them to find their place in a world in which they often do not feel they belong. By getting to know the "favorites", we experience an eventful time with them that will have a decisive impact on their future.
