Berlin 1942: Hilde is in love. With Hans. In their passion, the two often forget war and danger. Then they are just two young people at the beginning of their lives. Hilde admires her lover's courage, he moves in resistance circles. She herself is rather timid, but takes an increasingly courageous part in the actions of a group that will later be called the "Red Orchestra". At the end of an all too pleasant summer, however, they are all arrested. Hilde is eight months pregnant and gives birth to her son in prison. There she develops a strength that no one would have believed her capable of.
