The "rebel of Art Nouveau" turns 150

On May 7, the Düsseldorf painter Ilna Ewers-Wunderwald will be 150 years old. To mark the occasion, we are inviting art lovers and interested parties to a celebration. Not least since the exhibition "Rebel of Art Nouveau", which the Heine Institute presented in 2022, this extraordinary artist has received increasing attention. Several keynote speeches will build on this:

Dr. Sven Brömsel, a biographer and proven expert on the artist's work, will take a look at his years in Düsseldorf and at Ewers-Wunderwald's artistically active family.

Dr. Kathrin DuBois (Kunstpalast) illustrates the role Ewers-Wunderwald will play in the upcoming "Künstlerinnen!" show.

Communication designer Eliza Karoline Oestreich-Ries will present her study project, which depicts important stages in the life of the artist, who died in 1957, in fantastic illustrations.

Martin Willems, archivist at the Heine Institute, will provide an overview of the estate kept on site. Some new finds will also be presented exclusively.
