Program:
Lieder by Johannes Brahms and contemporaries
In addition to symphonies, string quartets and piano music, Johannes Brahms was also a prolific song composer throughout his career. His "Feldeinsamkeit" achieved world fame as the epitome of the German art song. The text was written by the author Hermann Allmers (1821-1902), who was born in Rechtenfleth. He became nationally known as a "marshland poet" and was characterized by a way of life that was close to his homeland and at the same time open to the world through his exploration of distant lands. It is not known how Brahms became aware of the text. As he maintained an interest in his North German homeland throughout his life, the harmonious fusion of man and nature in Allmer's poem may have appealed to him. The Austrian baritone Georg Nigl is one of the most distinguished lieder singers of our time. Together with his pianist Olga Pashchenko, who has been associated with him for many years, he is organizing the Musikfest Atelier "Feldeinsamkeit". When the two of them, together with participants from all over the world, dedicate themselves to Brahms' song oeuvre and that of his contemporaries, Allmer's concept of home, which includes the foreign and the unfamiliar, takes on a new meaning...
