Room 4
The right is gaining strength, and "the center" is hardly inferior to it in terms of brutalization. Democratic rights, e.g. to strike and assemble, are being fought for again and again in the courts. The turn of the century calls for a defensive stance, there is supposedly a lack of money for social welfare, and life itself is precarious.
We may find ourselves speechless, on the defensive or "on the losing end" - for example, where we encounter resentment and our opposition is urgently needed to defend what does not yet exist: a vibrant, caring, feminist democracy. A community in which the free development of the individual is a prerequisite for the free development of all. Because all human concerns are constituted and combined in such a way that "social, ecological and cultural human development is a perspective and not an improbable by-product", as Frigga Haug writes about the 4-in-one perspective. What should such a community look like?
We start with the text "Demokratie als fürsorgliche Praxis" by Joan Tronto (published in the journal Feministische Studien, 2000) and gradually add further texts. Questions could be: What kind of democracy do we mean when we talk about democracy? What role did and do struggles for participation play in the feminist movement? What material foundations are needed for democracy? What do security, division of labor, time, gender relations, etc. have to do with democracy? How are these questions negotiated in feminist social concepts here and elsewhere?
We will read together and translate into our own words (close reading), collect questions and exchange ideas. There is no plan set in stone. From meeting to meeting, we follow our curiosity, take the time we need and make "detours" via other texts.
Texts are provided free of charge, read together on site and "translated" into our own words (close reading). All genders are welcome! The only requirement is that you are committed to signing in and out.
