Ferngespräch - Vera Zischke und Yasmin Polat über Mutterschaft

These days, social media often dictates how a mother should be. The analog world is also full of advice and well-intentioned tips. But what happens when this image of motherhood becomes a corset? When your own wishes, desires and feelings suddenly come to the fore?

On this evening, Sandra da Vina (author and presenter) talks to Vera Zischke and Yasmin Polat about their novels "Ava liebt noch" and "Im Prinzip ist alles okay" and goes in search of today's image of motherhood with the authors - and what the pressure of expectation does to the protagonists in their novels.

About the authors:

Vera Zischke, born in the Rhineland in 1980, lives and works as a newspaper editor in the Ruhr region. After many years as a reporter, she thought she was no longer a stranger to anything human. But then she had three children and knew that the fun had only just begun. Her debut novel "Ava liebt noch" is about the ideal of motherhood and the question of how much freedom a woman can allow herself. She was a scholarship holder at the Montségur Academy and is currently writing her second novel.

Yasmin Polat is an author and podcast host who grew up in Berlin in the noughties. Her work deals with social and pop culture issues. In 2018, she was selected by medium magazine as one of the "Top 30 to 30" journalists. In 2023, her debut novel "Im Prinzip ist alles okay" was published by Goya Verlag. Among other things, the novel deals with intergenerational violence, motherhood, the difficult attempt to step out of learned patterns and still fulfill the claim of self-love in all of this. Yasmin is at home in the podcast world, she has hosted the podcasts "hdgdl", "FOMO" and "Verdammt Berühmt", and is currently at the microphone for "Skandal, Skandal" by Wondery.
