Festival de Chôro München 2025

In the organizer's words:

Choro is the older brother of samba and is not only played and celebrated throughout Brazil, but also in many other parts of the world. It demands great virtuosity on its typical instruments and percussion and harmoniously combines the roots of scholarly music with popular music.

With the Festival de Chôro 2025, Munich will become the European capital of Choro for the fourth time: The LUISE cultural center will offer concerts, lectures, workshops* for young and old as well as Rodas de Choro and Brazilian food.

*Active workshop participants should be able to play an instrument.

Friday, March 7: 12-14 h Bandão (Choro Orchestra), 14:30-17:30 h Workshops with Lucas Telles (guitar and harmony instruments), Abel Borges (percussion and pandeiro), Marcio Schuster (melody instruments), 18 h Opening concert with Sérgio Albach followed by a Roda de Choro.

Saturday, March 8: 9am-12pm workshops with Lucas Telles (guitar and harmony instruments), Abel Borges (percussion and pandeiro), Marcio Sch uster (melody instruments), 1:30pm-3:30pm bandão, 1:30pm body percussion for children aged 7+ with Ludwig Himpsl, 3:30pm-5pm workshop on improvisation/composition, 5pm concert with Caiana Duo, 7pm concert with Toca de Tatu from Belo Horizonte

Sunday, March 9: 9:30-11 am Bandão, 11-12:30 am workshop on improvisation/composition, 11:30 am children's concert with Flávio Nunes and guests, 1:30 pm Bandão performance followed by Roda de Choro, 4 pm lecture and discussion on the role of choro in Brazilian literature, 6 pm concert with Bavaschôro feat.
