Festival Out Of The Box 2025: The Resonance of Time

January 11 to February 2, 2025

What does "cultural heritage" mean? What do we remember? What makes us distinctive? The Out Of The Box festival from January 11 to February 2, 2025 is entitled "The Resonance of Time". For three weeks, the festival will be a place of debate and exchange at 13 venues in Bavaria in over 40 events to approach these questions artistically. "The Resonance Of Time" is a journey towards identity, memory and diversity. Six concert programs, including four world premieres and one German premiere, will be complemented by a varied additional program.

There will be living room concerts in the homes of private hosts, pop-up performances in the whiteBOX, children's concerts for the youngest and the child-at-heart in the audience and the interactive installation "Body Of Memories", which will grow steadily over the course of the festival - and in which festival visitors can share their own memories.

World premiere of "Genetic memory" (Gregor Hübner)

About the ensemble:
The Munich Composers Collective under the direction of Gregor Hübner is a big band line-up with an embedded string quartet and electronics, made up of improvising and composing musicians from the Munich scene. The Trondheim Voices are a Norwegian vocal ensemble known for their innovative and cross-genre performances and, under the direction of Sissel Vera Petterson, open up new worlds of sound.

Genetic Memory - Gregor Hübner

The opening composition "Genetic Memory", written by composer and violinist Gregor Hübner for the two ensembles Munich Composers Collective and Trondheim Voices, is based on a Sufi chant originating from Islamic musical practice, traditionally formed from meditative and poetic sounds. "Genetic Memory" deals with the healing process of a society to free itself from the consequences of colonialism and slavery.

The Resonance Of The Insivible

A mobile space, light and sound installation accompanies artists and audience to selected stations on the festival tour. The membrane-like creation by the artist duo "Plastique Fantastique" reacts to movement and touch. The sounds of nature recorded throughout Bavaria are interwoven by sound artist Pablo Diserens to create a new sound cosmos that connects the historical resonance chamber with the natural landscapes of Bavaria. The bubble becomes a symbol of cultural localization and a place of longing.
