Born in Martinique, Frantz Fanon fought on the side of the Allies in the Second World War and then studied philosophy and medicine in France. In 1953, he became head physician at a psychiatric clinic in the French colony of Algeria. There he resigned from the civil service and joined the FLN liberation front. As its international spokesman, he became one of the most influential theorists of the worldwide anti-colonial liberation struggles.

In the film, Fanon's companions have their say, such as his biographer and comrade-in-arms in the revolutionization of psychiatry in North Africa Alice Cherki, his assistant Marie-Jeanne Manuellan and the historian Jean Khalfa. Their testimonies attest to Fanon's enduring importance in the fight against colonialism and racism and "for a global humanism".
