FILMFEST HAMBURG zeigt The Return of the Projectionist

DOCUMENTARY FILM A Cinema Paradiso in the snowy mountains of Azerbaijan: this fairytale film tells the story of an unlikely friendship fueled by a devotion to cinema. Samid, an ageing former projectionist, decides to show films again in his village after a long break. The material conditions are far from ideal, but he has an unshakeable passion for cinema. The main thing he lacks is a working lamp for the old projector. When he finds an enthusiastic ally in the young Ayaz, the dream of cinema seems within reach.

ORKHAN AGHAZADEH (*1988 in Azerbaijan) studied at the London Film School. His feature film debut The Prisoner was the first production from Azerbaijan to be selected by the Cinéfondation Residency in Cannes in 2021.

FILMFEST HAMBURG will take place from September 26 to October 5, 2024. Over 120 productions from all over the world will be shown as world, European, German or Hamburg premieres.
