On the occasion of International Women's Day, we are pleased to present the award-winning documentary "White Torture" as part of a special screening.

The screening will be followed by a high-profile panel discussion with filmmakers Gelareh Kakavand and Vahid Zarezadeh as well as former political prisoner and human rights activist Monireh Baradaran. Be part of this important event and set an example for human rights! In addition, there will be a book table where visitors will have the opportunity to purchase the book **"Frau Leben Freiheit "** by Narges Mohammadi as well as many other books

Narges Mohammadi, renowned human rights activist and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, made this harrowing documentary during a prison break in Iran. Based on the testimonies of former political prisoners, "White Torture" reveals the brutal methods of solitary confinement: four bare walls, permanent light, absolute silence and total social isolation. This perfidious form of torture leaves no visible scars, but systematically destroys the psyche of those affected. The film documents the inhumane prison conditions in Iran, in which opponents of the regime are systematically broken and forced to make false confessions. Despite the harrowing subject matter, the film is also a testimony to resistance and hope. The film was directed by **Gelareh Kakavand and Vahid Zarezadeh**, who worked on the realization together with Mohammadi. "White Torture" has already been awarded the Grand Reportages Prize at the Geneva Human Rights Film Festival 2022.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion in German on the topics of human rights, torture and the Iranian political system. This panel discussion offers a rare opportunity to speak with the filmmakers and a former prisoner about the reality of political oppression and psychological torture.

The panelists are:

- Gelareh Kakavand (filmmaker and cinematographer who deals intensively with political and social issues in her work)

- Vahid Zarezadeh (director, editor and cameraman, whose work has been shown on BBC and Arte, among others)

- Monireh Baradaran (author, political activist and former prisoner of the notorious Evin prison. She spent nine years in Iranian prisons, including solitary confinement, and has lived in exile in Germany since 1991).
