How do modern people react to the unstoppable reality of their own death and the loss of their loved ones? Philosopher Moritz Terwesten explores these questions in his documentary film Dying without God , which will be released in cinemas nationwide in March 2025. The film addresses the question of how we can deal with the inevitability of death without resorting to religious promises of comfort. To this end, he has brought various interviewees in front of the camera - from mortician Eric Wrede, who reached an audience of millions with Dying for Beginners, to physics theorist Lawrence Krauss, Berlin cult director Jörg Buttgereit and well-known forensic scientist Marc Benecke.
A leading role in the film is played by philosopher Franz Josef Wetz, whose book"Tot ohne Gott. A New Culture of Farewell" (Alibri Verlag) was an important source of inspiration for the filmmaker.

A poignant, albeit unforgiving reflection on what it means to really "live" in the face of the inevitable end.

After the film premiere, philosopher Franz Josef Wetz and director Moritz Terwesten will discuss the central question of our existence: How can we live with the fact that we all have to die - without letting fear destroy us?
