Hedwig Höß welcomes her mother to her stucco house. It is the first time her mother has visited the villa where Hedwig lives with her husband Rudolf and their children. The sun is shining, the garden is well-tended and full of blooming flowers. The dog is enjoying the greenery and the vegetables and herbs are thriving. The children splash around in the water. The Höß family seems to lead a perfect life. But outside the walls of the property, it becomes clear that here - on the edge of the Auschwitz extermination camp - is hell on earth and that Rudolf Höss, as SS-Obersturmbannführer, is the camp commander himself.
