Filmvorführung – Miloš Trakilović und Šejla Kamerić: Colourless Green Freedoms Sleep Furiously

In the organizer's words:

As part of Miloš Trakilović's exhibition, KW presents a film screening of two works: Trakilović's Colorless Green Freedoms Sleep Furiously and 1395 Days Without Red, a collaboration between Šejla Kamerić, Anri Sala and Ari Benjamin Meyers.

Both works reflect experiences and memories of the war in Bosnia (1992-1995) and its aftermath, with a focus on the fundamental importance of color in the formation of memories.

The title of the event corresponds to the video of the same name by Miloš Trakilović from 2023. The work is based on an account by the artist's mother, who fled the war in Bosnia with her two children in 1995. When they arrived in the Netherlands, she experienced the brightness of the grass growing there as a revelation of a new state of freedom. Based on this memory, the work attempts to recreate and recreate this moment with the help of various visualization techniques, unfolding as a poetic dream sequence that oscillates fluidly between simulated and real landscapes. In this way, Trakilović speculatively explores the tense relationship between imagination and truth, focusing on their interplay in relation to war, memory and visual culture.

1395 Days Without Red follows a woman on her way through the almost deserted streets of Sarajevo. She stops at every intersection, looks, listens and runs. The chosen route became known as Sniper Alley during the years of the siege of the city between 1992 and 1996. At that time, citizens were advised not to wear bright colors, as this could alert the snipers on the hills surrounding the city. The Sarajevo Symphony Orchestra continued to play during this siege. The woman relives the experience of the siege as an individual journey in the collective memory of the city, with the orchestra pausing and starting to play again and again in accordance with her movements. The work is thus a poetic reflection on human perseverance despite the difficult challenges of war.
