Finissage and concert Transformation - Panta rhei x mex
Our exhibition "Transformation - Panta rhei" is only running until Sunday. We are celebrating the end of the group show on Saturday with a new edition of the mex concert series. Including:
RE:REUNION - NOW MY LIFE IS SWEET LIKE CINAMON play chess
At the center of RE:reunion is a chessboard modified with sensors and electronics. Six musicians and chess fans play fast-paced lightning chess and improvised music. Based on the position of the chess pieces, the chessboard generates a complex system of changing audio signal connections that allows the musicians to modulate and manipulate each other. A chess move can therefore sound extraordinarily good and a sound can pull the chess players out of their deep concentration.
The instruments used include self-built analog and digital synthesizers, modular systems, speech, samplers, lapsteel guitars, electric violins and much more. RE:Reunion is a continuation and variation of Reunion, a performance by John Cage, Lowell Cross and others from 1968, which takes the original as a rough technical template and negotiates new aesthetic questions.
The cast of the project includes Moritz Wesp, Eric Haupt, Christian Lorenzen, Marcus Zilz, Victor Gelling and Pablo Giw. RE:Reunion is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
