John Kirkbride and Ferdl Eichner - this duo stands for an intense musical partnership that draws its magic from the seemingly so different characters: on the one hand John, the mature globetrotter who has performed on countless stages all over the world, playing with well-known artists such as B.B. King, Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Procol Harum, Chuck Leavell, Albie Donnelly and many others. In 1984 he was invited to the Montreux Jazz Festival and toured as a support act for rock greats such as Whitesnake and Golden Earring. He is also probably the only solo artist who can claim to have performed AFTER Motörhead, keeping a few thousand bikers happy until the early hours of the morning.
On the other side is Ferdl, who has made a name for himself as a blues harp virtuoso and is a sought-after performer in many studio and live appearances with Abi Wallenstein, Louisiana Red, Hans Theessink, Frank Diez, Colin Hodgkinson, Dr. Will and Zither Manä, among others. He instinctively knows how to accompany John and with his harmonica always lends new timbres to their songs.
Whether John is accompanied by Ferdl on the blues harp or they both take up the guitar, whether the foot stompbox is also used - the result is an exciting performance that ensures an enthusiastic audience not only through the music, but also through the humorous stories that John knows how to tell and the varied surprises on stage. Their repertoire ranges from multi-layered original compositions from the blues and folk/roots music genres to independent interpretations of well-known classics that bear the unmistakable stamp of these two exceptional musicians in every respect.
Not only their live performances, but also their studio productions are impressive proof that these two musicians have been complementing each other perfectly for decades: John's masterful fingerpicking and slide playing on the guitar combined with his unmistakable voice, which has already been compared to "100 liters of whisky soaked", and Ferdl's virtuosity and feel on the blues harp.
The press writes:
Kirkbride's heartfelt and life-experienced vocals, his beautiful slides on the metal guitar and Ferdl Eichner's sensational mastery of the harmonica brought the authentic blues character to the basement of the Grünes Haus... The interplay between these exceptional musicians completely thrilled the audience. The interpretations of classics such as "Hey Joe" by Jimi Hendrix or songs about the legend Robert Johnson were a first-class blues experience. (Memminger Zeitung)
Solo, John Kirkbride is an experience - together with harmonica player Ferdl Eichner, the veteran of the blues surpasses himself. (Münchner Merkur)
The man from Scotland plays his guitar with great sensitivity or with a bottleneck. He coaxes cheeky, buzzing melodies from his instrument and plucks the bass accompaniment at the same time. Eichner is also a virtuoso: he doesn't blow according to dusty patterns, but gives his playing free rein. (Süddeutsche Zeitung)
