In "FLOW", a cat escapes onto a boat together with other animals after a doomsday-like storm and sets off in search of a new home. Without any human dialog, this extraordinary animated film tells a rousing story of friendship and the power of respect.
story of friendship and the power of respectful cooperation. A real treasure of a movie!
With FLOW, director Gints Zilbalodis tells a fable about friendship and the survival of a community that has to learn to be considerate and respect each other with all their idiosyncrasies. Zilbalodis locates FLOW in a fantasy world in which humans no longer play a role and in which the animals are thrown back on what is their own: instinct. The unusual heroine is a cat who is so adorably innocent that she will melt any viewer's heart. The other animal characters are also portrayed in loving detail. Whether it's the loyal golden retriever, the majestic secretary bird or the rather pragmatic capybara - they all represent completely 'human' characteristics, but are never anthropomorphized and act as animals. The landscapes appear almost photorealistic, but time and again the film allows itself small magical moments when the colors almost seem to explode, the perspective of the animals is taken and one no longer dares to distinguish between dream and the real world.
This mood is also supported by the atmospheric score by Rihards Zaļupe. The film maintains its narrative tension right to the end, is complex and yet universally accessible.
FLOW is an exceptionally original masterpiece of animation (winner of the European Film Award and the Golden Globe) and a film that can inspire audiences of all ages.
