Local ambience and world music, great festival sound and family-friendly atmosphere, organization with heart and soul, sustainable and with regional products. All this and much more is our, is your Folkerdey.
The sound of the world is coming to Ratingen. This year, a handful of artists are bringing music from their distant homeland, ingeniously interpreted with their finger on the pulse of the times. Àit Ait immerse old Irish songs in soundscapes of live electronics. 100 Voltas sing Galician folklore and electrify their virtuoso accordion and fiddle playing with sound effects. Kadinelia span Greek shepherd music between rock and electro. And Violons Barbares roll over Mongolian throat singing in percussive thunderstorms. Palm Bay Frost sound like a lot of European tradition, yet their music is all their own. Never before has a Folkerdey been so original and so modern at the same time!Folkerdey is also always dancing and joie de vivre: the Wanton String Band plays folk in the best sense of the word and spreads an infectious and even hypnotizing dance mood. El Flecha Negra is a highly spirited and well-oiled rhythm machine that draws on the rich musical tradition of Latin America.
Of course, there will also be young music from their homeland: Tylee writes and sings very personal songs with ukulele. The Reel Talents from the Bonn Music School will bring Irish and Scottish folk music to the stage. And the DBG Big Band from the grammar school in the district skillfully alternates between symphonic rock and groovy jazz.
