Ren, a music and dance enthusiast, moves with his mother from Chicago to live with relatives in a sleepy provincial town. There, public dancing is forbidden by law. Ren falls in love with Ariel, the pastor's daughter, who castigates rock music as the devil's work. During a tractor duel, Ren passes a test of courage and begins to inspire the youth to organize a public dance event. The town council votes down the proposal. Ren convinces the priest. The big party takes place in a factory hall.

Music and dance film with hits from the 80s, which triggered a wave of music films of all kinds with "Flashdance". The songs "Footloose" and "Let's Hear It for the Boy" were nominated for an Oscar.
