Panel discussion: On crumbling bridges. A panel discussion about the renovation backlog and how we can solve it

The collapse of Dresden's Carola Bridge a year ago drew public attention to the poor condition of many bridges in Germany. Around ten percent of the approximately 40,000 highway and federal road bridges are in urgent need of repair or replacement. Of the 67,000 or so municipal bridges, around half are not in good condition
If a bridge has to be closed, cars and trucks divert to other routes. This leads to traffic jams, accelerates the wear and tear of other bridges and puts a strain on the economy and the environment. So what can be done to prevent this in the future and drive forward the urgently needed modernization of bridges? And what else is needed besides a lot of money?
