Signs of life under the microscope

As part of the exhibition "Signs of Life" at the Cologne gallery formformsuche Martin Bohn +Partner, Ingrid Gossner is showing the results of her research into the unity of man and nature from August 3 to 17. Gossner takes a look at the early stages of plant seedlings and documents these moments using microphotography. The exhibition will be accompanied by the publication Bodenschätze.

In search of a sign of life, doctors would check the vital functions and gardeners perhaps the sprouting of new buds. Perhaps the latter also look for the germination of seeds. Ingrid Gossner's exhibition Signs of Life is dedicated to this aspect at a particularly early stage. It is the moment when the germ leaves the protective shell of the seed and sets out on the path of life. It is an almost unknown, fantastic world full of shapes and colors in which this early development of the seedling takes place. These early stages of development remain hidden from our eyes. Using the medium of microphotography, Ingrid Gossner succeeds in documenting the moment of metamorphosis. The final photograph is made up of several individual images, taken at short intervals and then digitally processed.
