FOUNDATIONS – 15 internationale Perspektiven I ZWEI ANSICHTEN / DREI DIMENSIONEN Artist Couple Elke Judith Wagner and Frank Dornseif

In the organizer's words:

We cordially invite you to two exhibitions at Haus Kunst Mitte:

The group exhibition FOUNDATIONS brings together works by 15 international artists. On display are painting, photography, sculpture, video, mixed media and installations. African-diasporic and African-American positions are highlighted in order to create space for inclusive perspectives on conceptual peculiarities in content, medium and genre and for an examination of different perspectives.

The FOUNDATIONS exhibition focuses on the basic building blocks of life and how life is created, perceived and vital. Some works deal with the development of social concepts such as human rights or the significance of individual and collective history, which are reflected in adult life as a result of childhood experiences. Other works focus on the intergenerational effects of colonial history. Other objects emphasize the influence of art history and traditional art forms on contemporary positions. The significance of biological, social and cultural ecosystems and the impact of the smallest changes in our shared global, cultural, economic, political and ecological systems will also be examined.

Participating artists:

Osi Audu, Philip Crawford, Adelaide Damoah, Kevin Demery, Jerry Helle, Mario Joyce, Sekai Machache, Mario Moore, Nnenna Okore, Ato Ribeiro, Anike Joyce Sadiq, Ghizlane Sahli, Lerato Shadi, Helena Uambembe and Raelis Vasquez

Curation:

Sakhile Matlhare and Daniel Hagemeier,

Sakhile&Me Gallery in Frankfurt/Main

Haus Kunst Mitte presents the artist Elke Judith Wagner and the artist Frank Dornseif together as an artist couple for the first time in Berlin. After 30 years of withdrawal from the Berlin art scene, they return with works from their entire creative career.

For a long time, they did not publicize the fact that they had been a couple for 50 years, as Elke Wagner wanted to build her career independently of her husband. The fear that when an artist couple exhibits together, the private and the public become mixed has so far prevented them from exhibiting together in Berlin, their main place of work.

The exhibition for the artist couple Elke Wagner / Frank Dornseif is the second that Haus Kunst Mitte has dedicated to the complex and fascinating subject of the artist couple. This marks the beginning of a series that will be continued in the coming years.
