In her multi-channel video installation "von hier", Munich-based photographer and video artist Franziska Schrödinger focuses on a motif that is both art-historically charged and everyday, almost kitschy: the flower. On the one side: artistically painted skulls from Dingolfing and Hallstatt - decorated with floral patterns, yet rigid, timeless, enraptured. On the other side: floral tattoos on living skin - warm, shiny, in subtle movement. In their juxtaposition, a field of tension unfolds between life and death, memory and identity.
What do these images tell us about transience? What role do tattoos play in identity and self-determination? And how do the skulls bearing names and dates of death position themselves - as mere relics or as an active part of the culture of remembrance?
