On her way to go shopping with a group of friends, Black trans woman Chrishaun Reed "CeCe" McDonald was brutally attacked, and as she defended her life, a man was killed. After a forced interrogation, CeCe was imprisoned in a men's prison in Minnesota (USA). An international campaign for her release received strong support from media and activists, including actress Laverne Cox, who produced the documentary that explores the role of ethnicity, class and gender in the case.
