Free­dom is a Dancer

Toi, toi, toi: The world premiere of "Freedom is a Dancer" marks the farewell to Münsterstraße and at the same time the departure to our new venue, the Central. With the ensemble of the Junges Schauspiel and guests, we are not just celebrating a big farewell party with this production. We are celebrating freedom. The desire for freedom unites people all over the world. Some go out into nature to be free, others have to defend themselves against lack of freedom and oppression. Still others dance to free their minds and souls. Freedom is a privilege, and freedom is much more than the absence of fear and oppression. Freedom means shaping your life according to your own ideas. It is about the right to have rights and to be heard.

Seven actors and dancers with very different biographies make it possible to experience what it means to be free through dance - humorous, poetic, honest and silly, with text and dance, with body and mind.

Nir de Volff is an internationally sought-after Berlin director and choreographer and has worked at the Berlin Schaubühne, the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin and the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, among others. He was responsible for the choreography of "Peer Gynt" at the D'haus. "Freedom is a Dancer" is his first work for young people.
