FRENTE CUMBIERO have played a key role in shaping the sonic identity of cumbia in Latin America and will be coming to Hamburg for one of their rare shows on June 18. Accompanied by the one-man loop orchestra RUMBO TUMBA and our beloved CUMBIA IM VIERTEL crew, we will once again be providing one of those sweat-inducing nights at the Knust.

FRENTE CUMBIERO:
Frente Cumbiero is considered one of the spearheads of the cumbia nueva movement in Colombia because of their fresh, contemporary and exciting interpretation of cumbia. The quartet is led by Colombian songwriter and producer Mario Galeano, who also works with Ondatrópica and Los Pirañas. He draws his inspiration and the samples that form the basis for his contemporary tracks from his large collection of cumbia records, mainly from the 60s and 70s. With their highly danceable tropical music, they are the true followers of guacharaca.

Frente Cumbiero has collaborated in the past with the Kronos Quartet, recorded an album with dub master Mad Professor and played major concerts at festivals such as Roskilde, Womad and Fuji Rock. Their latest album "Cera Perdida" was released in 2021, while in the meantime they have also released an album together with the Japanese band Minyo Crusaders.

RUMBO TUMBA:
Rumbo Tumba is a craftsman of organic loops, a one-man orchestra that plays, records and mixes traditional wooden instruments in real time, taking South American folklore and Andean music into the future. Argentinean Facundo Salgado's electro-acoustic music project experiments with the fusion of rhythms and sound textures from different parts of South America - especially from the Andean region - with urban beats such as dub, hip hop and house. Rumbo Tumba's music harmonizes the deep emotions of life in contact with nature and the everyday dynamics of big cities, bridging the gap between two worlds that often seem antagonistic. Mountains and cities, earth and asphalt, wood and electricity merge into his sound.
