Frida Kahlo – ein bewegtes Leben in Bildern

In the organizer's words:

With her unmistakable style, Frida combined traditional Mexican elements with modern art, creating an image of herself that still fascinates and inspires people all over the world today. Her art, her iconic Tehuana costume and her unwavering will to defy the expectations of a male-dominated society made her a figurehead of the modern women's movement.

We want to give this outstanding woman a stage in Dresden. Using Kahlo's diary entries and letters, we will create an evening of theater that immerses the audience in the soul of this artist and shows a balancing act between love & suffering, unrestraint & dependence, lust & pain. We want to focus on one of the main sources of her inspiration and unhappiness: her long-term relationship with her husband Diego Riviera.

The interplay between intimacy and independence, between unbridled desire and sexual machinations, right up to their political struggle, represents the challenges of a modern relationship in unstable times. An evening of music, poetry, dance and painting is created around this center, which is influenced by the culture of Mexico and its indigenous roots.
