Author Deniz Utlu in conversation with the winners of the Prix PREMIERE #5
The Prix PREMIERE honors voices in contemporary French literature that are being translated into German for the first time, as well as their translators.
Every year, around 1,000 books are translated from French into German, including many novels. Among all the new publications are numerous books by authors who have been translated into German for the first time. How can you decide in view of the large selection of interesting works?
You don't want to miss out on the most exciting voices that are now having their say and will perhaps soon shape our imagination, our emotions, maybe even our world view... The Prix PREMIERE can offer guidance and also put the spotlight on the outstanding work and artistry of German translators.
This year's jury, consisting of Nicola Denis (literary translator and author, winner of PREMIERE#4), Aurélie Maurin (Program Manager TOLEDO - German Translators' Fund), Niki Théron (Senior Manager International Projects - Frankfurt Book Fair), Karin Uttendörfer (literary translator, PREMIERE#1 prizewinner), Manon Boutté (Cultural Officer of the Franco-German Cultural Institute Tübingen / ICFA) and Myriam Louviot (Head of the Office for Books and Publishing, Institut français Deutschland), selected three titles from the longlist, which were available for readers to choose from until mid-February:inside.
