The title of this Tamburi Mundi project describes what it is all about: dance and music that draws on the North African-Andalusian musical tradition and combines it with the flamenco art of Andalusia. This cultural area offers many musical impulses and opens up many artistic freedoms. The rhythms of Andalucia form an essential interface for the evening: traditional and classical forms alternate with a creative approach to new ideas.
For this special project, three artists will come together in Freiburg to create this evening for the Tamburi Mundi Festival:
Bettina Castaño (flamenco artist from Seville), has already impressed Tamburi Mundi audiences many times with her dance artistry, whether with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, with master percussionist Sukkanya Ramgopal from India or in dialog with Murat Coskun. Salim Beltitane (Algerian percussionist from Strasbourg) is known at Tamburi Mundi from many concerts, at least when it comes to the theme of "North Africa". The Algerian has specialized in North African rhythms and is a guest at many festivals worldwide. Juana Larreta (percussionist from Granada) is in Freiburg for the first time. Born in Argentina, she used to dance flamenco herself but has "changed sides" in recent years, but her "flamenco background" gives her playing a very special touch.
Other guests include the Moroccan singer and violinist Taha Alami, Espina (flamenco guitar) and Murat Coskun on the frame drums.
