The Krefeld sewage treatment plant was inaugurated in 1909. It is a listed Art Nouveau building with a special charm. The guided tour of the historic building looks at the history of wastewater treatment, the understanding of hygiene in the 19th century and the building culture of the city. The current challenges in the sustainable use of water resources (goals of the UN Agenda 2030) will also be discussed. The event is free of charge, donations to the Verein zum Erhalt des historischen Klärwerks Krefeld Uerdingen e.V. are welcome.
