Everything seems perfect in Waad al-Kateab's life. She falls in love with the doctor Hamza, marries him, becomes pregnant and gives birth to a daughter. At the same time, brutal fighting breaks out in Aleppo. She feels torn as to whether she should flee to protect her daughter Sama from violence and destruction, or whether she should stay at home to strive for freedom.
