France 2020, feature film, 95 min
Directed by Fanny Liatard & Jérémy Trouilh.
With: Alseni Bathily, Lyna Khoudri, Jamil McCraven, Finnegan Oldfield.
Language: OmU (French with German subtitles).
Youri is the self-appointed janitor of a 1960s housing estate in the suburbs of Paris called "Gagarin". Although the residents try their hardest, they cannot prevent the city from deciding to demolish the estate. One by one, everyone moves away, only Youri decides to stay and finds new friends in Diana and Dali. But then the illegal settlement is forcibly dissolved by Diana's family and preparations are made to demolish Youri's apartment complex. But Youri is stubborn, he sticks to his vision and wants to save "Gagarin".
GAGARIN is a film about neighborhoods, a love film, an architecture film and perhaps also a science fiction film. Above all, however, it is a film about community that focuses on people who are often pushed to the margins. The filmmakers find a lot of sensitivity and beautiful images for this.
