Moderator: Dr. Martin Clemens Winter (University of Leipzig)
Estare Weiser is the youngest known survivor of the "HASAG Leipzig" subcamp. She was born in the camp on April 13, 1945. The subcamp was evacuated by the SS on the same day. The approximately 5,000 female prisoners were driven on so-called death marches. Only sick and weakened prisoners and pregnant women like Estare's mother Anna Kurz were left behind. After the camp was evacuated, the prisoners were left to fend for themselves. They looted the SS larders and closets and waited for the arrival of the US liberators. They reached the camp on April 19 and immediately transferred the sick to various hospitals in Leipzig.
In the interview, Estare Weiser will talk about the fate of her mother. She will also talk about how the memories were passed on and processed within the family.
The event is part of the #BefreitInLeipzig1945 project and a cooperation between the Leipzig Forced Labor Memorial and Leipzig University and is supported by the Alfred Landecker Foundation.
The event will be held in English.
