Gedankengänge: Braucht Freiheit Erinnerung?

In the organizer's words:

On the day of remembrance of the resistance against National Socialism, a city tour will take place with students from TU Dortmund University under the direction of Barbara Welzel, Professor of Art History and Cultural Education, and project assistant Fiona Newzella.

The route leads from the NSU memorial at the Steinwache memorial site along the "Stolpersteine", which commemorate people from Dortmund who were deported during National Socialism. During the tour through Dortmund's city center, questions such as: Does freedom need remembrance? What memories? To whom? And why? We will also discuss how memorials are designed in public spaces. Do they need an artistic form? And furthermore: On whose initiative are they erected?

In a mixture of walk and workshop, this "Walkshop" offers interested parties the opportunity to talk to each other and share experiences and opinions on the subject of "memories" and to think about them in the context of the importance of freedom and democratic values.

The walkshop is free of charge and does not require registration. The meeting point is at the NSU memorial at Steinstraße 50 north of Dortmund Central Station.

Science Year 2024 - Freedom

The background to the "Gedankengänge" project series is the Science Year 2024 with the theme "Freedom". The four-part series is being held in cooperation with the "nordwärts" project, the City of Dortmund's Science Masterplan, the district mayor of Nordstadt Hannah Rosenbaum, Auslandsgesellschaft e.V. and Quartiersmanagement Nordstadt. It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science.
