QUEERHISTORYMONTH
QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1 to 31, 2025 (www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events during the festival will bring the history(ies) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome - kings, queers, queens, allies, friends, families (of choice) and everyone in between and beyond!
EVENT
The murdered, missing and surviving victims of homosexual persecution will be commemorated together. The Neuengamme Memorial Book lists several hundred male prisoners who were sent to the concentration camp for violations of § 175 StGB. Many of them died in the Neuengamme concentration camp system.
After the Second World War, the group of prisoners with the pink triangle was ostracized. A memorial stone for them was only erected at the Neuengamme concentration camp memorial site in 1985 - under protest from other prisoner groups. In 2024, two memorials were decided in the middle of Hamburg to bring the commemoration of all queer victims of sexual persecution from the periphery to the center.
