Dance piece by Olaf Schmidt based on the novel by Pierre-Ambroise-François Choderlos de Laclos

Published in 1782, the novel "Les Liaisons dangereuses" consists entirely of 175 letters from aristocratic Parisian society, which expose the intense intrigue of the Vicomte de Valmont and the Marquise de Merteuil. Former lovers, they are now accomplices in a variety of subtle and cruel machinations. Valmont's current goal is to possess the beautiful and virtuous Madame de Tourvel at all costs. The Marquise, on the other hand, wants revenge on a lover who has just left her. Together they devise a perfidious plan that turns into an extremely dangerous game.

The novel is considered a milestone in French Enlightenment literature. In addition to the spicy stories of passion and power, it examines the nature of man from a wide variety of moral and philosophical perspectives. And ultimately questions the individual freedom of life and love. The unscrupulous manipulations and the breathlessly changing relationship structures, which on the one hand deny serious emotional consequences and on the other hand cannot avoid them, seem to have been created for a fascinating evening of dance theater.
