GEL deliver sound to jump to

Hardcore punk band from New Jersey

in Germany in July

When a band is formed from the members of a powerviolence group called Sick Shit, you can roughly calculate the musical tempo you're in for. GEL from New Jersey have been reliably releasing hardcore punk records at the highest level since 2018 and are particularly appreciated for their live energy. At the center of GEL is singer Sami Kaiser, who screams and sings in a way that is hard to describe. On "XOXO", the hit from their debut album "Violent
Closure", for example, it sounds as if she first overtakes herself and then the entire band in her rage. On the single "Worms Of The Senses / Faculties Of The Skull" , released in November 2024, the band and singer circle each other, alternately giving each other space, only to jump at each other with relish a little later. Parts that seem to be made for sweat-inducing circle pits, in which their fans will also jump on each other.

However,GEL are not only regarded as a live authority in their own circles, they are also a band that has managed to score points outside the firmly established scenes. Their numerous, rousing festival appearances in particular have won them many new fans and also won over listeners who don't always tolerate such a hard sound. In an interview with the metal magazine Kerrang! , Sami Kaiser explained this effect as follows: "There's this aggression and this emotional vulnerability that I think is picked up in one way or another by all these heavier bands. It makes sense to me that a wider audience can identify with something like that because it's such a natural human expression."

Most recently, alongside the aforementioned single, an EP called "Persona" was released, which on the one hand perfectly captures GEL 's trademark aggression, but on the other hand also has a depth that is worth discovering. Sami Kaiser sings and screams about self-discovery and reflection, bringing the ideas and thoughts of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung into a hardcore punk context.

GEL will finally be touring Germany in July, playing concerts in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Oberhausen and Dresden. The support acts include Anxious (not in Hamburg) and Chastity , two of the band's extended circle of friends.
