Gemeinsames Lesen: Charlotte Beradt, Das Dritte Reich des Traums (1962)

In the organizer's words:

"So I started collecting dreams dictated by the dictatorship. That was not easy, because some people were afraid to tell what they had dreamed; [...] I asked people around me about their dreams [...] dressmaker, neighbor, aunt, milkman, friend, almost always without revealing the purpose, because I wanted answers that were as uncolored as possible" (Charlotte Beradt, Das Dritte Reich des Traums, 1962, p. 10).

Between 1933 and 1939, the author and publicist Charlotte Beradt collected dreams of her fellow human beings and published her collection in 1962 in a book that traces the collective unconscious of society under the National Socialist regime. Fynn Ribbeck's animated film AN EGGSHELL MIND (2023) presented in the exhibition is inspired by Beradt's dream collection.
