Born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler, the Austrian Jew fled from the Nazis to America and became a film star in Hollywood from the 1930s to the 1950s. She became famous for it.

But there is an unknown side, because she also invented a jam-proof telecommunications system that could have contributed to the defeat of the Third Reich. She wanted to give her patent to the American Navy, but was turned down - she was told to sell kisses for war bonds instead. Shortly before her death, scientists discovered her invention, which serves as the basis for today's technology for WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth connections. Hedy Lamarr herself never spoke publicly about her life as a scientist. And so her family believed that Hedy's legacy was buried with her death.
