Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald | Ruhrfestspiele 2025

In the organizer's words:

A production of the KAWUMM project
In cooperation with Teilhabe gestalten e. V.

Ödön von Horváth's folk play was first performed in 1931. The text is almost a hundred years old. But it describes a world that is very similar to ours today. Do we also live in a society that is falling out of its ideal world? Many are fleeing into niches where the world is still supposed to be in order. Others are clutching at straws that have long since snapped. We stagger serenely towards our fate, narrowly avoiding catastrophe. Or are we already in the thick of it?

The inclusive ensemble of the KAWUMM project once again tells of hopes and longings in its own way. After developing a trilogy of end-time scenarios themselves, the group is using a literary text for the first time. Franz-Joseph Dieken, who also adapted the text, is once again directing the production. In this way, different theatrical means are brought to bear and the humor is not lost despite everything. The premiere is on the European Day of Protest for the Equality of People with Disabilities.

The Ruhrfestspiele is presenting the KAWUMM project at Theater Marl in cooperation with the Council Commission for People with Disabilities of the City of Recklinghausen.
