Author and director Markus Brauckmann presents his new book "The First Generation: How the fight for the environment began" and talks to presenter Kerstin Ruskowski about the stories of the first environmental pioneers in NRW and the beginning of the fight to preserve nature.
Earth Day, Greenpeace, smog alerts and driving bans - since the 1970s, people in NRW have been fighting against water and air pollution, nuclear power plants and for the preservation of nature.
They were the generation that demonstrated against the expansion of Frankfurt Airport and drew attention to the poisoning of the Rhine. In the 1970s and 1980s, ordinary citizens began to stand up for nature. These often local initiatives developed into a movement that was to change our country, our politics and our environment in the long term.
In his book "The First Generation", Markus Brauckmann tells the gripping story of the creative protest actions of the first hour, of community, love and responsibility. He shows what people can achieve with courage and passion and how it is possible to get politicians to act.
The reading will take place at Schleuse II in the Bilker Bunker, Aachener Str. 39 in Düsseldorf. Free admission. Admission is at 7 pm.
