Gespräch: „Wie erinnern?“ Das Zwangsarbeiter*innen- und Krankensammellager Gremberger Wäldchen

From the early 1940s until 1945, there was a sick collection camp for forced laborers in Gremberger Wäldchen in the east of Cologne. Several dozen prisoners were murdered and others injured in a massacre during the evacuation of the camp in early April 1945. The "AG Bodendenkmal" has been campaigning for a memorial on the site of the former camp for some time. In conversation with Stefanie Bilinski (NS-DOK), Ilona Obergfell (AG Bodendenkmal), Christoph Keller (LVR, Amt für Bodendenkmalpflege), Gregor Wagner (City of Cologne, Archäologische Bodendenkmalpflege) and Matthias Lammers (historian) will explore the question of how the history of the site and the crimes committed there can be commemorated.

To mark the anniversary of the closure of the sick camp, historian Matthias Lammers will give a guided tour of the site on April 12, 2025 at 2 p.m. and explain the history of the camp and its prisoners. A memorial and information event organized by the "AG Bodendenkmal" will also take place on the site at 3:30 pm with reports from contemporary witnesses, information about the camp and musical contributions.

The meeting point for the tour and the memorial and information event is the Nazi memorial in Gremberger Wäldchen. This tour is not barrier-free.
