Gibt es Freiheit für Andersdenkende? - Im Rahmen der Gesprächsreihe "Dresden im Gespräch"

In the organizer's words:

A series of events in cooperation with Aktion Zivilcourage e. V.

Population surveys show that the "perceived" freedom of opinion in Germany has been declining for years. Many people apparently have the impression that they can no longer express their convictions and views openly.

The opening evening of our series therefore takes up current debates about cancel culture, shitstorms and hate speech. It deals with social conflicts surrounding freedom of speech, opinion and thought and asks: Are we allowed to think - and say - anything? Does everyone have the same freedom to speak and express their views? What about the freedom of published opinion? Do the media contribute to the free formation of opinion? What is no longer allowed to be said these days?

Keynote speech: Oliver Reinhard, journalist

About the series "Dresden in conversation"

On the occasion of our special exhibition Freiheit. An Unfinished Story, we will be talking to interested parties about this central idea of an open and democratic society. Personal freedom is a fundamental human right and at the same time the subject of controversial debates and profound conflicts today.

After a thematic introduction by experts from academia and the media, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their personal experience of freedom in moderated discussion groups. The three evenings will focus on freedom of thought and opinion and the freedom of the media, biographical experiences of restrictions on freedom and how women learn to be free, and finally on struggles for freedom and moments of liberation.
