Giltburg mit Rachmaninow

In the organizer's words:

Composed in Dresden, Sergei Rachmaninov's First Piano Sonata is one of the great works he created in our city. He was inspired by Goethe's "Faust" and assigned one of the main characters to each of the three movements: Faust, Gretchen and Mephisto. The work marks the beginning of another evening in our "Stars at the Piano" series, featuring none other than artist in residence Boris Giltburg. The sonata is followed by an arrangement for piano of Prokofiev's ballet music "Romeo and Juliet" - an opportunity for Giltburg to present the tragic and tender moments of the famous love story with haunting clarity.
Ravel's "Gaspard de la nuit", the third work of the evening, is inspired by dark poetry and challenges the limits of what is possible on the piano with its dreamlike and fiendishly difficult passages. In this recital, the multi-award-winning pianist shows why he is regarded as one of the outstanding musicians of his generation.

At the invitation of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra in cooperation with DK Deutsche Klassik.
