Girl Scout

It's an oft-told story: a couple of friends get to know each other during their music studies and form a band. Many such groups disappear into the masses, but not Girl Scout. The members of the Swedish indie rock band met while studying jazz at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Initially, Emma Jansson and Viktor Spasov formed a duo. They needed money and played cover versions of various classics. After a short time, they brought in fellow student Per Lindberg and began writing their own songs together. Before even a single song by Girl Scout could be found online, they were already performing on festival stages in Scandinavia and supporting Holly Humberstone on her European tour. Consequently, the most common comment on their social media pages was: "Where can I find music by you?". In September 2022, they finally released their first single "Do You Remember Sally Moore", which is reminiscent of the soundtrack to a British coming-of-age series and was well received by fans and critics alike. 2023 was an eventful year for the young band: while supporting Coach Party on their UK and European tour, they released two EPs. First "Real Life Human Garbage" in February, and then "Granny Music" in September. Their new single "I Just Needed You To Know" followed in May of this year, its driving melody perfectly suited to the start of summer. Anyone who makes music in Sweden quickly has to face comparisons. From Abba to Robyn to the Viagra Boys - the music market is very dense in relation to the size of the country. It takes a special mix to stand out: the pop influences, which are perhaps also recognizable through the two-woman, two-man line-up à la Abba, are expressed through big, rousing choruses. At the same time, their songwriting captivates with a creative curiosity that Girl Scout probably owe to their jazz studies. Rock and country elements flash up again and again, giving the indie rock an extraordinary touch. Girl Scout have achieved something special in an era of digital streaming: they first made a name for themselves as a live band. This is probably why their concerts are bursting with energy, enthusiasm and musical skill.
